Well after the afterglow of becoming a published author had faded I was nominated for an eZ Award for my first article published earlier this year and today my next article has been published on ez.no! This latest (second) article has been titled “How to Use eZ Publish Extensions: Google Analytics“. It is quite an exciting year.

As a child I would sneak out of bed to watch tv at all hours of the night / early morning. I was, am, and will always be fatally addicted to the medium of media in all it’s wondrous forms. Every now and again I am reminded of a technology / computer show which fueled my imagination and desire to learn all that I could about the world of computers and technology, from very young to teenager, this show is called the Computer Chronicles.

Back in 2003 I began thinking about how I would like to see a Computer Chronicles DVD Box Set. I spent some time researching the subject to find that a large amount of material was available in MPEG2 (DVD Ready) video files. The quality is really good for the video equipment the which the show was recorded and later digitized with.

I actually contacted on of the creators and hosts of the show Stewart Cheifet via email and phone to discuss the idea. It was amazing to get such an opportunity to talk with one who was such an inspiration in my childhood.

The problem for me at that time was I did not have the bandwidth, disk storage, video editing software, dvd authoring software or dvd burning hardware resources to complete such a project, even as a homebrew dvd myself.

I gather that while there is an interest in a dvd box set of the Computer Chronicles world wide, the production team have not yet chosen how to approach the subject and tackle the rather large project. I learned this in 2003 and again touching base with Stewart again in early 2006.

Flash forward to 2006; Today I basically have or can fairly simply obtain all of the resources which I lacked 3 years ago to start the project. I wrote a bit about my ideas in a private forum (summary) and did a bit of documenting (txt) again on how to break the project down into manageable chunks.

This is where I now stand. Looking to do a small best of Computer Chronicles DVD (<7 episodes). I’m putting together the software I need (most trouble), and assembling the needed plans to edit, master and distribute the test among my friends.

References: There are so many mentions of the Computer Cronicles all kinds all over the interweb There are people in the shaddows of the web, private forums, im, and irc talking about how much they want to see Computer Chronicles on DVD in our lifetime.

I found a neat hack to keep up to date on the latest work on eZ components via this rss feed, though this link is more complete, I’ll be adding this to my ezpublish.opml file shortly. I’ll see if I can’t find any other eZ publish related rss feeds to add to the opml file at the same time.

Man, what a tuff call … what do I love more eZ publish or OPML , prolly eZ publish cause I can make it generate opml.

I always loved the podcast before we had podcasts called “Geeks in Space”. I would listen to the last weeks episode over and over and over again untill the next episode was released.

All my bad podcast listener habits were formed before internet radio shows had rss

“Geeks in Space” was a nearly-weekly audio show hosted by Rob “CmdrTaco” Malda, Jeff “Hemos” Bates, Jon CowboyNeal Potter and Nate “Mix Master” Oostendorp of the popular news site Slashdot about “News for Nerds, Stuff that Matters”

A idea, a show, a crew ahead of their time. Geeks in Space provided the podcast content, humor, feel; only missing rss enclosures. Geeks in Space … 7/1999 - 7/2001.

Drawing from the stories and discussions on the Slashdot site, the dynamic hosts discuss Linux, open-source, and cool technology.

“Geeks in Space” or GIS as it was often coined, sadly and slowly disappeared with it’s last release titled “We’re Really Dancing!” seemingly off the scene towards in end of summer of 2001.

Though they are not the officially gone, after several years on indefinite hiatus until hey “figure out how the hell they’ll do it with the hosts on different coasts”, they are sorely missed today.

The audio was released via thesync.com with the original show archives and discussions with each release article / show notes in the radio section of Slashdot.

Several key locations make mention to the “Geeks in Space” folklore offering all kinds of background, references, history, mirrors, about this great show and it’s personalities.

Today, As I sigh a breath of relief; I think about all that has happened in my life leading up to today.

Today has been a personal goal for a very long time and today I now that I have reached this goal and climb above this peak the view changes as looking up to this peak as my goal to the rapidly changing view of the next 4 peaks or goals just now coming into view.

I think about how proud I am that I have been able to continue to strive towards my goals and how fortunate I have been to have been to get here.

From the people who have supported and encouraged me, to the people who didn’t both spurring me forward towards my desires and goals.

Reminding me that I owe a rather large debt to far to many who have been in my life, whether for the good, the bad and the ugly, each is more than a bit of my past, they are a ever present memory that serves as a reminder in those lulls between the storms.

A strong thank you goes out to you, princes and princesses of my past.

Watching the film about F/OSS and just what F/OSS means, Revolution OS. It is well worth the $27 for the powerfull inspiration it gives you when you watch it. Even though I must have watched it, listened to it over 28 times, each time I enjoy it, it is like gnu all over again
